| OPCR | It is with great enthusiasm and delight that 700
children aged six to nine from underprivileged neighbourhoods in the
Greater Montreal and Quebec City regions took part in the O.P.C.R.
Christmas Shows that were held on December 17th, 2002 at the
Espaces Dalhousie in Quebec City and on December 19th 2002 at
the Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Montreal. The O.P.C.R. has been organizing this exceptional event for a 12th
consecutive year now, as part of its efforts to sensitize the public to
the fact that over 290,000 children (18.7%) live in poverty in Quebec and
to the need to remedy this unacceptable situation. The Chorale de l’Accueil Bonneau, Les Clowns du Carrousel, Touché of
the Montreal Alouettes, Youppi from The Montreal Expos and many others
spared no effort to make the children live and experience the true magic
of Christmas. While all children were treated to a delicious buffet and
received many gifts, none was more precious than renewed hope, knowing
that people from their community do care about them and their future. The
Organization for the Protection of Children’s Rights is a registered
charity, Its mission is to protect and defend the rights of children and
adolescents in difficulty and, more particularly, individuals experiencing
problems as a result of family conflicts and/or the breakup of the family
through prevention, education and early intervention. In the photo we see members of the organizing committee and community
supporters. From left to right standing, Dr. Dominic D’Abate, PhD,
