Non ti pago… On January 12 and 13, the theatre group L’Oratorio performed Eduardo De Filippo’s Non Ti Pago, a Neapolitan comedy in three acts to a sold-out audience at Centro Leonardo Da Vinci. L’Oratorio is a non-profit and amateur theatre group comprised of lay people belonging mainly to the Salesian parish of Missione Maria Ausiliatrice in Rivière-des-Prairies. The group dedicates time and energy to raise money from their performances for Salesian mission works around the world. Last year, $7,000.00 was sent directly to the Salesian Sisters’ mission in Kenya. About three years ago, the group adopted the name "L’Oratorio" to better reflect the spirit of St. John Bosco’s educational philosophy. In fact, L’Oratorio in 19th century Valdocco, Italy was very similar to a modern day youth centre. Within the Oratory, Don Bosco used theatre as both an entertaining and educational means to reach his young audiences. Throughout the world, "oratori" are still being established to provide recreation as well as spiritual and religious education for youth. The goal of Missione Maria Ausiliatrice’s L’Oratorio is to help Salesian priests and sisters who operate schools and orphanages in underprivileged countries, improve the lot of the children.
