Enrico Museo and Mary Caimano have joined forces to write Letters from Rome, a romantic comedy set in Saint Leonard, which played at the Centaur theater recently. "I’ve always dreamed of doing a play at Centaur," Museo told The Gazette. "It was the place where I saw my first play when I was a student at Dawson College over 20 years ago. That’s when I caught the bug. He and Caimano, who has an Arts background, began writing Letters from Rome in May 1999. While Museo did most of the actual writing, Caimano worked in story development and editing. She also designed the set and poster and plays the role of Nina. A young wife who is not ready to have a baby. Museo and Caimano have embraced lighthearted romantic comedy. "We didn’t want to alienate anybody," Museo said. The action takes place in the home of the widowed Giacomo (Domenico di Donato) which he shares with his rocking-chair mother, Melenia (Edda Ricignuolo); his daughter Nina (Caimano); and her husband, Nick (Vito Di Filippo). Giacomo’s other daughter, Gianna (Linda Tommassone), has returned from Italy with a pretentious poet of a fiancé named Romano (Silvio Orvieto) in tow. While Romano makes his move on every woman in sight including Nina’s business associate Rachel (Rita Ricignuolo), Gianna’s hometown admirer, Frankie (Giancarlo Caltbiano), tries to recapture the good old days. Amore is also on the mind of Giacomo, who can’t keep his hands off Nick’s Mother, Vivianna (Maria Bugge). |
