CITOYEN At least 12 000 people were in attendance at the 10th Fête du Citoyen on Sunday, September 12, 2004 which made it one of the biggest events in Saint-Leonard’s history. " Everything was great; ideal temperature, a quiet weekend and happy people‚ " commented Claude Brunelle, Director, Service des affaires publiques et du développement communautaire, one the main organizers of the Fête du citoyen. Fishing in the pond, shows, make-up workshops, inflatable games, corn on the cob, Park Wilfrid-Bastien and the grounds around the Borough’s City Hall were the theater of a wide range of activities. The pond’s 1000 trouts were caught in record time and the big wheel, a true attraction, attracted people all day long, wrote Lucie Lecours in the Progres de St.Leonard. This year’s big wheel and the two shows were very well received, including Colectivo. They are a true reflection of our population, a collection of musicians from different cultural backgrounds‚ " added Mr. Brunelle. Everything on-site was free, except for the food concessions there to satisfy the biggest hunger. " It’s an important financial participation for us since they pay royalties to the Fête du citoyen, which diminishes costs‚ " explains the Director. Costs attached to the Fête du citoyen, about $50 000, will be entirely assumed by Affichage Astral Média thanks to an agreement concluded between the company and the Borough of Saint-Leonard. A few years ago, the municipal authorities concluded an agreement stipulating that the event had to finance itself with the advertising contract’s revenues.
